Hi, I'm Andy.
I'm a professional jazz guitarist, educator and creator of Jazz Guitar with Andy. I help guitarists get to grips with jazz through the music itself — learning great standards, understanding the harmony and developing the skills to improvise, comp and play chord melody.
The music and the teaching
My love of jazz is rooted in the music of the 1930s and ’40s. Charlie Christian, Django Reinhardt and George Barnes are among my biggest influences.
I’ve taught guitar for many years, and I started Jazz Guitar with Andy to share what I’ve learned about the music and help players work through the challenges of learning jazz guitar.

Current musical projects
Swing from Paris
I regularly tour the UK with Swing from Paris, a four-piece jazz ensemble celebrating the music of the swing era. I also write arrangements for the band, shaping how we bring that music to the stage.

The Katya Gorrie Quartet
I’ve performed with Canadian vocalist Katya Gorrie for many years. We currently play together in a quartet inspired by the music of Peggy Lee, Julie London and Blossom Dearie, alongside Will Harris on double bass and Daniel Newberry on saxophone.
Away from the guitar
I also enjoy studying classical piano, particularly the music of Claude Debussy and Beethoven. When I’m not making music, I’m usually out walking with my two Labradors, Willow and Rusty, who keep me busy!
